Chives, heat for feet

Many people plant chives in the backyard as it is a plant easy to grow, especially in summer they will thrive very quickly. When the plant is mature, cutting the chives and using them in dishes, does not require the plant to be replanted. Chives are a very green and lush plant that is not only useful as an ingredient but also for decoration in the garden. In Chinese medicine chives are not only a good vegetable to eat but are also used as medication.

Those who should eat more chives
People who are suffering from yang Qi deficiency, especially if the lower region of the body is cold, such as the feet. Since Chinese medicine considers yang Qi to be the body’s energy that helps in warming and promotion of circulation. If deficient in yang Qi, the body will become cold especially in the lower regions where the blood circulation is poor, thus both feet will become cold. It will also present symptoms of pale and sweaty feet, lower back pain, knee pain, puffiness and pain around the ankles. Chives have a warm and mildly spicy character, and therefore are able to increase circulation and the warming of the lower extremities as well as stimulating yang Qi.

Chives are also used in Chinese medicine to treat impotence and other sexual dysfunctions. As sexual functions are closely related to Kidney yang and Kidney Qi, chives help in the strengthening and boosting of Kidney yang and Kidney Qi thus helping to improve sexual function.

Modern science also recommends chives to help reduce cholesterol. Thus, those suffering from high cholesterol can increase their consumption of chives.

Cooking chives
Chives are very easy to cook in many dishes such as soup, stir fries, pastas, salads or pizzas. To decrease the symptoms mentioned above one handful of chives is recommended to be eaten daily.
